Spearmint Tea and Maca Root

I am currently drinking 2 cups per day of spearmint tea. I am drinking it for its anti-androgenic effects. For many women with PCOS it helps with acne and hirsutism associated with high testosterone. I have been dealing with bad acne ever since my miscarriage and I just got tired of it so I decided to try it. My acne right now it looking really good but I am not sure if it is from the tea or the antibiotics I was placed on for the HSG procedure. If I do become pregnant I will stop drinking it as soon as I get a positive test. I am drinking the Bigelow Mint Medley tea which is a mix or spearmint and peppermint. I make 2 tea bags per day and brew them twice.

I take the Baby and Me prenatal by MegaFood because it is an organic whole food vitamin. It also has the closest amounts of each vitamin to what is recommended that I have found.

I take Maca Root because I have conceived the last 2 times while taking it and I feel better when I take it. I started taking it May 2012 because it contains 31 minerals and 60 phytonutrients. It nourishes the endocrine system, aiding both the pituitary, adrenal, and thyroid glands which are all involved in hormonal balance. It has the ability to affect key hormones in both women and men without containing hormones itself. It increases energy and is very good for the thyroid because of the iodine content.

For women Maca works by controlling the estrogen levels in the body. Estrogen levels that are high or low at the wrong time can keep a woman from becoming pregnant or keep her from carrying to term. Excess estrogen levels also cause progesterone levels to be too low. Taking maca may help to increase the progesterone levels which are essential to carrying a healthy pregnancy.

In a human study of 9 men who were given gelatinized maca for 4 months at 1,500 – 3,000 mg a day experienced an increase in libido, sperm count, mobility of sperm, increased DHEA levels, decreased anxiety and stress, lowered blood pressure, balanced iron levels and an increase in adrenal androgens.

I have noticed a big difference in my husband when he is taking it and when he is not. When he is taking Maca his libido is good, he has much more energy and is more happy and upbeat.

HSG done January 13th

I had my HSG done on Monday. It went better than I anticipated. I was really nervous about it. The doctor that did it was a woman and very nice so that helped put me at ease.

There were only 2 bad parts. First the speculum she used was metal and very cold. The second part was when she injected the dye, it caused a burning and cramping sensation but it only lasted about a minute and got much better after that. She said everything looked normal initially but I am still waiting on the official report from my doctor.

I have been feeling like AF is going to start any minute for the past few days. I hope everything is ok and that is not a bad sign. I have been checking my temperature daily and have not had a fever so that is good. The antibiotic they gave me really upset my stomach and even made me throw up Tuesday morning but I am done taking it now.
